Join in the fun of the 7th Annual Gas Lamp Pet Parade in San Diego on Sunda7, Dec. 14th.  Downtown there are two well known and well-reviewed dog friendly hotels, the Hotel Solamar and the Hotel Indigo.  If you prefer the shopping, restaurants and the hustle & bustle of the Gas Lamp District these are the best choices.

If you just want to watch for walk in the parade, but stay somewhere closer to dog parks and beaches look for one of the many dog friendly hotels near MIssion Bay.  San Diego's off-leash dog beach, Ocean Beach is right there so you could exercise your dog in the morning and evening and spend the rest of the day shopping or sightseeing.

Balboa Park is one of my favorite spots in San Diego.  The art museums, gardens and fountains are beautiful, and one of the great dog parks in San Diego, Nate's Point, is also here.

If you don't want to leave your dog in the car while you explore the park, there are many great dog day care and boarding options: Puptown and SD Dog Day Care just to name a few.

For the holidays don't forget to checkout all of the amazing Christmas light displays in San Diego, inlcuding Knob Hill.  Although dogs are not allowed try to visit the San Diego Botanic Garden of Lights Dec. 6 - Dec. 23.

The Little Italy Mercato does allow dogs on leash, and it is full of unique restaurants and shops. They will hold their tree lighting ceremony and open up their Christmas Village on December 6th.
